The best AI for clipping videos

6 min read · Updated October 24, 2026

There are many AI clipping tools now. The differences that matter show up after the first video: how well it picks moments, whether the framing follows the speaker, and how much fixing the clips need. Use this checklist to compare them.

1. How it picks moments

A good tool listens to everything that's said, not just loud bits, and scores moments on more than one signal. Ask whether it starts clips on a strong line and ends on the point, and whether it skips intros and outros.

  • Zlayo transcribes the whole video and scores each stretch on talking, loudness compared with the rest of the video, reactions and how strong the opening line is; intros, outros and endings that trail off are pushed down.

2. Whether you get the clips you asked for

Some tools return a handful of clips no matter what. If you need 30 clips from a podcast, the tool should give you 30 whenever the video can hold them, at the length you set.

  • Zlayo returns the number of clips you ask for whenever the video is long enough, at your chosen length, and never clips the same moment twice from the same video.

3. Framing and editing

  • Does the crop follow whoever is talking, without jittering?
  • Does it cut dead air and filler words?
  • Can it keep the whole frame visible over a blurred band when the source is wide?
  • Zlayo follows the speaker, moving smoothly only when they drift out of the middle of the shot, cuts dead air and filler, and offers 9:16 or a band over a blurred copy.

4. Captions and your look

Captions should be readable and landed on each word. Look for ready-made styles you can change and save.

  • Zlayo has nineteen caption looks, each editable (font, size, colour, outline, position) and savable as your own.

5. Control: rules, timestamps, edits

  • Can you give it rules or say which moments you want?
  • Can you paste exact timestamps?
  • Can you fix a caption or the timing without starting again?
  • Zlayo follows the campaign rules you paste in (named times and topics first, banned topics avoided), cuts pasted timestamps exactly, and opens every clip in an editor where re-rendering never redoes the slow parts.

6. Price and what else it does

Compare what you get per month in minutes of video, and whether other formats you post are included. Zlayo's paid plans start at $19/month and include Reddit story, fake text and split-screen video makers, voiceovers and Voice Studio alongside clipping; every paid plan has every tool.

Questions

The one that picks good moments, frames the speaker, captions well and gives you the clip count you need with little fixing. Try a tool on one of your own videos before committing.

Zlayo's isn't: Auto-Clip, like every Zlayo tool, is on the paid plans, from $19 a month.

Zlayo can: paste the rules and it clips the named moments first and avoids banned topics.
