How do I make a vertical video with a blurred background?

3 min read · Updated October 30, 2026

Place the original centred in a vertical frame and fill the empty bands above and below with a blurred, enlarged copy of the same video. Crop instead when the subject fills the frame. In Zlayo you choose the frame (9:16, 4:5, 1:1 or 16:9); the output is always 1080x1920.

Crop or blur?

  • Crop for a single speaker in a wide shot: the tool follows the face.
  • Blur-fill for wide gameplay, screen recordings or anything you don't want cut off.

In Zlayo

Pick the frame in Auto-Clip. Anything but 9:16 becomes a centred band over a blurred copy or black. A heading and the brand mark sit in the band, clear of the footage.
