How to repurpose a podcast into shorts.

A good episode holds a dozen moments worth sharing, but nobody scrubs through two hours to find them. The method is simple: find the strongest answers, cut each to one idea, start on the hook, add captions, and post them over the next weeks.
Clip a podcast with Auto-Clip →What makes a podcast moment worth clipping
- A complete thought: a question, the answer, and a reason to care, in under a minute.
- A strong first sentence. The clip has to earn the next three seconds on its own.
- A reaction: a laugh, a disagreement, a surprise. Reactions travel better than information.
- Something a person can understand without having heard the rest of the episode.
The manual way
- 1
Listen at 1.5x with a notepad
Write down timestamps for anything that makes you stop. Aim for 10 to 15.
- 2
Cut each moment tight
Trim the lead-in and the trailing words. End on the payoff, not on the pause.
- 3
Make it vertical
Reframe to 9:16 and keep whoever is talking in the picture.
- 4
Add captions
Many people watch with the sound off, so captions do a lot of the work.
- 5
Write a one-line heading
A short line at the top says what the clip is about before anyone reads a caption.
The automatic way
Zlayo's Auto-Clip does the slow part. You upload the episode (or paste a public Google Drive or Dropbox link), choose how many clips you want, and it transcribes the whole thing, scores each moment on how much is said, reactions, loudness and how strong the opening line is, then cuts the best ones upright with the dead air and filler trimmed and captions burned in.
If you already know the moments you want, paste the timestamps and it cuts exactly those. Every clip opens in the editor if you want to change the captions or the timing.
How many clips, and how often
There is no magic number. A common approach is to cut 8 to 15 clips from each long episode and post one or two a day, so one recording feeds a couple of weeks of content. Keep a note of which clips do best and look for what they share.

Clip a podcast with Auto-ClipQuestions
Auto-Clip works from a video file. If you record audio only, a simple video with a still image works, but a real video recording gives much better clips.
Most work best between 20 and 45 seconds. Cut to one idea and stop when it lands.
Yes. Auto-Clip can add your name or logo to every clip.
Clip your own show, or a show whose creator has given you permission. Zlayo is for video you own or are allowed to clip.
