How to use an AI voice for narration.

A good AI voice turns a script into narration in minutes. The difference between robotic and natural comes mostly from how you write for it, and a few settings.

Write for the ear, not the eye

  • Short sentences. If you run out of breath reading it aloud, shorten it.
  • Say numbers and names the way you would speak them.
  • Use commas and full stops where you want pauses.
  • Read your script aloud once before generating.

Choosing a voice

Listen to several on the same paragraph. Warm voices suit explainers, firm voices suit stories with tension, and brighter voices suit upbeat content. Zlayo offers 15+ voices with notes on accent and tone, and speed, volume and pitch controls.

Speed matters

A slightly faster pace, around 1.1 to 1.2 times, often sounds more natural for short videos. Try a few values on a sentence before you generate the whole script.

Disclosure and rights

  • Platforms may ask you to label AI-generated or altered audio. Follow the current rules.
  • Clone only a voice you have the right to use, and never someone else's without clear permission.
